Luxor's east bank holds two of Egypt's most theatrical temples, and they are best seen at opposite ends of the day. Walk the forest of columns in Karnak's Great Hypostyle Hall while the light is high, then return to a floodlit Luxor Temple after dark, when the avenue of sphinxes and the great colonnade glow amber against the night.
